NMC Royal Hospital, Sharjah organizes Leadership in Quality Program
The Quality and Performance Improvement Department (QPID) at NMC Royal Hospital, Sharjah, concluded a six-month program on Leadership in Quality. 30 staff members from various department were enrolled in the month of September 2018 and were coached on various aspects of leadership. Using Six Sigma methodology (DMAIC), all participants teamed up in groups and defined their projects, determined by impact, feasibility and priority for the Hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Deepinder Singh, Manager, QPID stated, “Though the initial estimate was to commence 6 to 8 improvement projects, it was overwhelming to see the level of motivation of all participants as we finally ended up by working on 18 projects, addressing some of the key issues of our Hospital.”
Some of the topics covered in the program included basic and advanced Quality management tools, understanding various stages of a project, change management and effective closure of projects.

Optimizing OT efficiency for improving patient experience
Improving inventory management system in the laboratory
Optimizing Clinical Documentation in Nursing -IP & OP
Reducing charging errors in Emergency Department
Minimizing Medication Administration errors to Optimize Patient Safety in IP Department.
Optimizing Code Blue Process
Improving the effectiveness of IV Cannulation
Minimizing OPD waiting time
Discharge within 120 min
Minimizing pharmacy waiting time (<15 min)
Energy Conservation and reducing carbon emissions
Minimizing the number of complains in OPD
Breaking barriers in weight loss management
Improving the patient/staff safety by minimizing sharps injuries
Improving Segregation and Reduction of Medical Waste
Optimizing efficiency of Valet Parking at AZHS
Reducing the TAT in CT, MRI reports from 48hrs to 24hrs
Initiating a privilege club membership for more cash-paying patients
The final project presentations are expected to commence on 31st March 2019 and the Hospital believes that this program will enhance the leadership skills of staff and benefit the Hospital in building a culture of continuous quality improvement.
