Successful removal of very large fibrous tumor from the uterus by Dr Mohammad Alhasoun, Specialist Obstetrics & Gynaecology

A 42 year old female patient Souheila Mkher Al Mahmassani with a history of repeated bleeding, abdominal pain, dyspnea due to compression on diaphragm, anemia symptoms, urinary symptoms. In addition, she has co-morbidities like Diabetes, Hypertension and Obesity.

Six months back, her surgery for the same issue in one of the hospitals in Dubai had to be stopped due to failure of intubation & pulmonary bleeding and this was followed by an ICU stay for 3 days.

Since then, the hospitals she visited have refused to take up her case until she was referred to Dr Mohammad Hasoun at Al Zahra Hospital Sharjah. Clinical examination revealed a very big intra-abdomen mass, size equal 24-26 weeks pregnancy.

Tumor markers were normal. The ultrasound huge mass size 18/14.7/15cm, uterus 19.5/16/15.5cm, Hepatomegaly with fatty change in liver. The MRI showed huge pelvic abdominal mass size 20 cm/ 16 / 15cm on posterior wall of the uterus , ovaries normal.

The surgery was a huge fibroid myomectomy, with conservation of uterus .The surgery was completed in about 60 minutes with no any complication during intubation and anaesthesia . The patient is recovered well and was discharged in 4 days. She was very satisfied with the service and care provided by the Al Zahra staff.
