Reshaping the Mammography Experience 01

Reshaping the Mammography Experience and Improving Breast Cancer Detection For Better Women’s Health:

NMC Royal Hospital Sharjah is proud to introduce a Mammography System – Senographe Pristina that has been designed to make the mammogram experience for women comfortable. And that matters, because the more comfortable we can make it for women to get mammograms, the more likely women will be to get mammograms.

Mammography experience encompasses sociocultural as well as physical and psychological experience. To improve patient adherence to screening exams, all factors such as comfortable examination, anxiety, patient assisted compression and duration of exam has been taken into consideration.

Reshape your mammography experience at NMC Royal Hospital Sharjah with comfort, confidence and clarity. With the new 3D technology of our mammogram machine, we provide images with superior diagnostic accuracy at much less (less than 1%) radiation dose as a standard 2D mammography.

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis is leading the way when it comes to breast cancer detection. Studies conclude that Tomosynthesis plus Digital Mammography detects 90% more Cancers than Digital Mammography alone, with similar recall rate. This higher detection may have a beneficial impact on cancer prognosis. The Senographe Pristina platform is designed to support future functionalities, such as: Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography and breast intervention procedures as biopsy/ wire localization and VAB mammography guided when needed.

Rethinking patient comfort

The machine includes specialized paddles such as the flex paddle that can tilt to adapt to women’s varying morphology and the implant paddle specifically for breast implants as well as small breasts. These features help ease patient anxiety when they enter the examination room and the soft curved surface invites patients into a space of comfort and support.

FAQs

What is Patient assisted compression?

Patient-assisted compression is a remote control. You can use it under technologist guidance, to adjust the level of breast compression during the exam.

Why Breast compression?

Compression is very important to obtain high quality images and reduce radiation exposure. How does patient-assisted compression work? Your technologist will give the remote control and explain how to use it. The technologist will position your breast and apply initial compression. You will be able to adjust the level of compression. The technologist will guide you and let you know when you have reached the good level of compression. The technologist will then perform the scan.

What to expect during your Mammogram?

  1. You will be invited to remove your shirt and leave your belongings in the dressing room
  2. When you’re ready, the radiographer will guide you into the examination room and explain where to stand
  3. The radiographer will then carefully position your breast on the detector plate and show you where you can comfortably place your arm
  4. Once properly positioned, your breast will be compressed so that the lowest possible radiation dose will be needed for a precise image
  5. If you are receiving a digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT or 3D) exam, then multiple acquisitions will be taken at different angles. This gives the radiologist greater visibility into the different layers of the breast to help them better detect abnormalities
  6. On average, a mammography examination lasts for a few minutes, unless additional views or exams are required
