BURNS CLINIC in NMC Royal Hospital, Sharjah

Burns are a common injury affecting both adults and children. Children make up to 50% or so of all burns seen and of these, the majority are scald resulting from the child being splashed by a hot substance such as hot water for tea, hot coffee and sometimes oil.

What you do next is of great importance to the outcome. First aid is desirable. Apply cold water over the burnt area for a few minutes. This will reduce pain and remove the heat energy that is damaging the skin. Do not apply Meebo or other traditional remedies like toothpaste or lour. Once this is done apply cling ilm to the burn and seek help. The Cling ilm will stop contamination and provide some pain relief by limiting the exposure of the burn.
